Updates have made the S-MX R an even more accomplished road and track performer. Greater flexibility and comfort, combined with its lightweight and ergonomic shaping using h-tech micro-fiber, give superb riding control and safety performance. Contoured shin plate protection, with high modulus TPU injection has been re-profiled to improve forward flex performance whilst providing highly effective impact and abrasion protection. Air scoops are upgraded to allow the Achilles flex bellows to wrap around the ankle. Additional calf support is given by a molded logo tab behind the gusset. Injection molded, support gasket has been added to control support and stiffness in the ankle area. Wide and ventilated injected TPU heel counter structure is combined with an internal shock absorbing padded insert and memory foam ankle guard. Inside lower heel grip, with a smooth inner profile, gives good feel and control. Asymmetrical throat design bellows area has been profiled to flow over the medial side forefoot to aid flex and promote natural movement. Shifter pad and forefoot protection has been enlarged and uniquely styled with over-injected TPU inserts. Side entry zipper and expansion panel allow easy entry and exit with wide opening aperture and improved general fit. Micro adjustable, replaceable, ratchet closure, with recessed locking buckle and hidden strap around the calf, provides additional accuracy and security, in addition to the Velcro flap closure over the entry/exit zip. Synthetic inner lining in open cell foam for comfort and long-lasting and replaceable contoured footbed, sculptured with Alpinestars exclusive PU foam, provides improved arch support and increased forefoot pedal feel. Exclusive rubber compound sole is highly durable and gives superb grip on the footpegs and a high level of pedel  feel. Internal molded shank. Afully perforated version of the S-MX R provides higher levels of ventilation vor hot climates (available in black only). A Gore-Tex version is also available for ultimate weather protection with a waterproof and breathable membrane. The S-M R boot is CE certified.

Lateral, double injection, TPU sectiion for rear, outer, foot protection with hard compound uppeer section for security and buckle mounting and softer lower section for flexibility. Outer and inner ankle protection is given by innovative, double injected, TPU section with different Durometer (hardness) values and thicknesses to allow protection and flexibility, all in one section. These protectors are covered by the leather outer skin. Unique, single piece, medial outer leather panel, covers the inner leg, heel and inner fore-foot to give a very clean smooth surface for contact with the bike. Ankle is protected by a wrap around extension of the medial boot surface panel with two-layer EVA foam, shaped for fit, feel and comfort. Toe-box is re-enforced for protection and covered by the boot's medial outer panel. Shin protection, built into the boot structure and hidden below the outer surface leather. Three, ergonomically shaped aluminium buckles, providing easy, comfortable and secure snap closure with micro-adjustable, memory, straps for adjustability. The buckle attachment points feature a unique replaceable bridge to guide and secure the strap affectively. Wide entry aperture for convenience with Velcro upper closure flap to allow broad ranging calf fit adjustment. Padded gaiter to insulate the boot inner and foot against the elements. Wide flex bellows in Achilles and in-step to give flexibility and comfort both on and off the bike. Mesh inner liner for comfort and breathability. Out sole is triped injected rubber, giving three different compounds in the same section for ultimate feel, durability and grip.
